Inquiry: Does
pulling SPED students out of class for content mastery assistance increase their
comprehension of the objectives and ultimately increase their test scores?
Goal:
To
determine effective strategies to assist special education students, in the

I can't wait to see what you find out!! I was the inclusion teacher at my former school for 3 years - having the 4th grade SPED students in my class. My school now does a full pull-out program and I am interested to see what you find out with your research. So, are you the SPED teacher? And do you plan to pull these students for just a part of the class period?
ReplyDeleteI am a SPED teacher and will be using only part of the class period for these students. All initial instruction will come from the Algebra 1 teacher and I will be providing guided practice and reteaching strategies. We also have an Intensive Intervention class period that will be used for scheduling of these students. Thank you for your interest!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your plan is thorough & well thought out. I admire the SPED teachers on my campus because they are collaborative in nature. They cover all bases for the better of their students and your plan is collaboration in action. I really believe the effectiveness of a well-designed pull-out program outweighs the concerns of the student leaving the regular ed. classroom. Being a kindergarten teacher, I have no idea what this looks like on the high school level, but I can't wait to watch your progress. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, please visit my blog & comment if you have time. Thanks! http://leaderontrainingwheels.blogspot.com
Thank you for your vote of confidence and encouragement. The student is my number one priority and I hope this plan and strategies work out the way I foresee it too. Thank you for joining my blog!
DeleteLooks like a good plan. Are students receiving any other interventions? It might be good idea to keep track of the students who also attend tutorial or any other interventions. I think the key to your plan will be coming up with a consistent schedule for students.
ReplyDeleteTutorials are tracked weekly by grade reports. We have a one hour lunch built into our daily schedule and the first 30 minutes is required study hall for anyone who has a grade between 75 and 80. Anyone who has a grade below 74 must attend tutorials in the subject area reported. I track this as part of my SPED documentation and will defiantly use it in my analysis data. Thank you for the suggestion! I look forward to other suggestions you may have throughout the process.
DeleteMelinda, your plan is well thought out and thorough. Our Sped. Department could really benefit from your research findings. Our students are pulled out and when we received our 5th grade STAAR results the majority of our SPED studets failed. I believe you have given plenty of time to gather your data to obtain valid results. I will look forward to following your progress.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog and for your comment.
